A court hearing on Friday was rescheduled for a man suspected of possessing an explosive and other dangerous equipment at a Cathedral City home that had to be burned down.
Sean Clarke's felony settlement conference is now set for Sept. 11 at Larson Justice Center in Indio. An FSC is a routine procedure that allows prosecutors and attorneys to hold discussions before a judge in order to resolve a case.
A representative from the Riverside County Public Defenders office requested the continuence because attorneys needed more time to collect information for their case. Riverside County Superior Court Judge James Hawkins approved the continuance and Friday's hearing lasted less than five minutes.
Clarke, 21, pleaded not guilty June 26 to multiple felony charges related to the June 24 bomb scare at Sungate Country mobile home park.
Charges against Clarke include possession of an explosive device, arson, assembling a booby trap, disposing of hazardous waste and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Just before 2 a.m. June 24, Cathedral City police went to a home at 195 Sunseeker Place after a woman asked them to check on her father, saying her brother, Clarke, who was staying with their father, was "acting delusional."
Clarke met officers at the door and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance, police said. When they started to detain him, they found he had a "small improvised explosive device" that Clarke said he carried for protection.
Officers also saw the floor of the home was covered with a powdery substance, including dismantled shotgun shells and buckshot.
Authorities determined the best way to dispose of the other explosives was to burn the home June 27.
