Hyderabad: Three major activities are being taken up as part of Pattana Pragathi programme in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

These activities include preventive measures against seasonal diseases, sanitation and solid waste management and Haritha Haram. To curb seasonal diseases, desilting of drains, filling up frequent water logging points and civic works to prevent inundation in low lying areas are underway.

As a part of the exercise, water stagnation points at public places especially near hospitals, schools, Anganwadi centres etc were cleared and to curb vector borne diseases, the civic body has taken up anti-larval operations and released oil balls in water bodies. Portable fogging machines and vehicle mounted fogging machines were also pressed into service to control mosquito population.

Meanwhile, to accomplish its second task under Pattana Pragathi, i.e., sanitation and solid waste management, civic body officials cleared roadside bushes, cleaned choked drains and removed debris in different parts of the city. “Cleaning parks, bus shelters, schools, washrooms and other public places will also be taken up,” said a GHMC official.

To increase the green cover, plantation drives are being taken up in avenues, medians and open government lands under Telangana Ku Haritha Haram (TKHH).

Elected representatives are also participating in the programme. While Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav participated in the Pattana Pragathi programme in Bansilalpet, Sanatha Nagar, by planting a sapling, Mayor G Viajaya Laxmi inspected anti-larval operations in Uppal constituency and planted a sapling there.
